An interesting feature of this monograph is that the scientific aspects of astronomical findings have been adequately explained. It is in this background that the Qur’anic revelations have been discussed. It is fascinating to observe that there is perfect accord between Qur’anic revelations and astronomical discoveries.
The Qur’anic revelations on the origin of the universe, and other astronomical phenomena are most inspiring and are in conformity with scientific findings. The Qur’an speaks of the origin of the universe through a gaseous nucleus. It confirms the scientific concept of the expanding universe and its eventual termination through the process of implosion– the Big Crunch. The Qur’anic verses, revealed the orbital movement of the sun more than 1400 years ago whereas the Dutch Astronomer Jan Oort discovered it only in the early 20th century. The Qur’an has clearly predicted the existence of earth like planets outside the solar system in the last verse of Surah At-Talaq (65:12). The astrophysicists and astronomers have just commenced discovering this fact.
It is hoped, this monograph on Astronomical Sciences and Qur’anic Revelations will inspire other scholars to probe still deeper into the cosmological revelations in the Holy Qur’an.
In monograph No.17 of MEDNET: Selected Qur’anic Verses Classified by Scientific Themes, all the definitive Qur’anic verses which deal with varied scientific aspects such as Astronomical Sciences, Earth Sciences, Medical, Biological Sciences and Natural Resources have already been published. However for the benefit of the readers of this monograph an appendix has been added which highlights the Qur’anic verses relating to Astronomical Sciences only.
